truLAN in 2024 was overall successful but not as successful as it could have been.
Getting an ABN and the business registered were big steps. Along with doing about half of the TAFE business course I actually got a few clients and made some profit. It was an enjoyable and eye opening experience.
A google maps page was born, this website popped into existence. I worked short stints with Uber Eats and Woolworths.
But the dream slowed down. I was gaining momentum without even advertising much yet. I did have Vistaprint send me a solid amount of flyers I planned to chuck into mailboxes but I never did distribute them out of….. fear of success? Self-induced tall poppy syndrome? I am not sure. But before I could gain the courage I needed, I had a contracting agency bang down my door and offer me a fantastic long term gig giving me more pay than I have ever earned before.
That new job, plus moving house and going on a fantastic trip to Brisbane with a mate meant that my priorities had shifted substantially. And that is okay! My 2024 was hectic and busy and stressful but it was overall a fantastic self-growth period. Quitting my stable job in early January was one of the best decisions I have ever made, even if the first few weeks were scary.
I want to thank the clients I had for being people who gave me a fair go for a fair price and gave me a large confidence boost regarding my IT skills and applying them to other peoples situations. Not a company or my own home IT, entirely new people with their own set of requirements and available technology.
Did line go up? Did I profit? Yeah, I did. By like, a few hundred dollars but mostly the experience itself was “profit”. Character development. And for that I am glad 🙂
